Thyroid hormones; high T3 symptoms

Thyroid gland is butterfly shaped small gland infront of your neck. Thyroid gland produces 2 thyroid  hormones as T3- triiodothyronine and T4- thyroxine.  TSH-thyroid stimulating hormone is an another thyroid  hormone which is produced by pituitary gland. TSH stimulates the thyroid gland for T3 and T4 production.

There are 2 forms of T3 hormone as free and bound form to proteins. Total T3 means all the T3 hormone amount in your body.  Free T3 is the active thyroid hormone in your body. T4 is converted to T3 in liver for metabolic activities like regulation of body temperature , heart rate, energy production, carbohydrate metabolism, etc.

Free T3 level is determined by free T3 blood test to evaluate thyroid gland functions. Your doctor may request free T3 blood test if you have symptoms of hyperthyroidism. Hyperthyroidism is the over active thyroid gland and may be caused by high levels of T3 or T4 thyroid hormones. High T3 level causes high metabolic rate and speeds up your metabolism.
